Top Gun Practice Session 04-26-2013
Proper preparation for the “Top Gun Scale
Invitational” requires extensive attention to the model,
its sub systems, documentation, presentation, etc.
Pilot proficiency and repetition of the flight routine
that you intend to impress the flight judges with, is
the other half of the equation.
Ray Johns (Gen. USAF Ret.) joined us for a practice
session at our local jet friendly S.A.M.S. (Sanford, Fl.
Aeromodelers).
Since Top Gun’s “Paradise Field” is grass, practicing
on a grass strip is beneficial. Ray got some stick time
with lots of approaches on a BobCat and an Ultra
Bandit. Dustin perfected his Starfighter trim flights
showing everyone the “Wow Factor” of the F-104G. BVM’s
“Success Package” for this latest Skymaster offering
will allow customers to properly rig and trim this
challenging jet. It actually looks easy to fly.
The Navy Aggressor EBandit is a close match in
performance to my competition F-80 (EVF) so I use it to
practice a 5-1/2 minute routine. It was a fun day!
