A nice feature of the Sabre Jet is that it will
accomodate a variety of power plants. The popularity, power range and
availability of the JetCat P-80 make it an excellent choice.![]()
There are no
structural modifications to the model up to the point of final power plant
installation. The engine bypass and tailpipe were developed specifically for
the system and an additional 11oz. saddle type fuel tank was added aft of the
C.G.![]()
This little bit of
extra fuel (now a total of 75oz.) actually helps to move the C.G. aft a bit for
initial rotation and provides for the extra thrust available for effortless
take-offs.![]()
Top
end RPM was limited to 110,000 rpm which provided 14lbs of installed thrust.
The new F-86/Fury (2002 kits) are very strong airframes and can handle this
power safely.
| Weight Comparison | |
| Dry Weight: | F-86 with wing tanks and RAM 500 powerplant = 17lbs 4oz. |
| F-86 with wing tanks and JetCat P-80 powerplant (including 4oz. nose ballast) = 18lbs 6oz | |

The Sabre handles this weight very well and the full
flaps, power-on approach to landing is rock solid.![]()
We are sure that Sabre
Jet owners will be pleased with the combination.![]()
