I attended the
fly-in at Victor Valley RC near Hesperia, California,
from June 25th through June 27th. This is an excellent
field with a beautifully paved runway, great shaded
structures, and exceptionally welcoming people.
Unfortunately, being in the desert, we had to contend
with strong winds that blew directly down the runway,
ranging from 15 to 25 miles per hour and increasing to
around 35 miles per hour later in the afternoon. Even
so, that did not stop the dedicated enthusiasts from
getting flights in whenever conditions allowed,
especially early in the day and again late in the
evening when the winds were more favorable. The standout
aircraft at this event were definitely the Desperado and
the Bandit Evo. I was also able to get the 1/5 scale
F-18 out for a few flights on Friday morning. Although
the event was smaller than expected because of the
weather, the people who attended were among the kindest
and most generous individuals I have met in the hobby.
On Friday night, despite the wind, they still hosted a
build-your-own-pizza dinner, and plenty of stories were
shared. I will definitely attend this event every year
when it is held in California, and I would highly
recommend it to anyone looking for a great RC event in
Southern California.
