Xtreme Retract
Pivot Bolt Security

Trailer hauling your jet with landing gear down can cause extra wear and tear on the system and sometimes allow certain fittings to work loose.  Such was the case with our Xtreme L-39 while transporting it to Florida Jets.

After the trip, the gear legs felt a bit sloppy and it was apparent after we removed the main gear that the pivot axle bolts worked loose.

The Fix

Use a 2.5mm hex wrench to remove one axle bolt at a time.  Place a drop of Zap Z-42 thread Locker on the bolt threads and securely tighten it.  You may need 2 hex wrenches to hold the bolt on the other side.

The Rest of the Story

In our curiosity to examine the very precision axle system, we removed the trunion block from the side frames.  In doing so, we misplaced the thin Teflon shim washer that fine tunes the fit of the block to the side frames.

Within minutes, the BVM Laser guys made some replacement shims.  Since this may happen to our customers we are making these .005" thick Teflon shims available.  They are in groups of (4) and available for $2.50 plus postage.  The part number is #PA-SR-6001.

This could be a handy field box item.
